Thankfulness
Luke 17:16-17 (AMP) —
‘...and he lay face downward at Jesus’ feet, thanking Him (over and over). He was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, 'Were not ten [of you] cleansed? Where are the other nine?’
I was recently reading through some old journals where I documented my thanks to God for what he had done for me at that time. It was good to remember what he did for me and how far he has brought me: it was food for the soul and charged my faith into believing him for greater things to come.
In the above Bible story Jesus had healed ten men from leprosy, however only one returned to Jesus to say thanks. Jesus makes a point of highlighting that this healed man was a Samaritan. This is huge as Samaritans and Jews did not mix!
John 4:9 'The Samaritan woman asked Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (For Jews have nothing to do with Samaritans.)'
Jesus, the great barrier breaker, teaches us that ages, stages, race, tribe, colour, background, whatever our differences or past experiences, there is no barrier to the impact he can have on our lives - and for that we should be ever thankful!
There is an old song by Dottie Rambo that is so poignant and significant for today's devotional:
'Roll back the curtain of memory now and then,
show me where you brought me from
and where I could have been,
oh remember I'm human and humans forget,
so remind me remind me dear lord.'
Prayer - Holy Spirit, please put me in remembrance of all God has done for me that I should be thankful for. Let my heart burn with excitement as I thank him, and may my faith be charged to believe him for even greater things.
