Our Daily Bread of Thanksgiving
Psalm 100:1-5 (NIV)
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
It’s Friday! Thank you for joining me this week on a journey through verses precious to me. And today it is one most dear to me. My mum was given a Psalm for each of my siblings when we were born, and this is mine!
For me, this is what heaven is like. When I read this psalm, I can’t help but be overwhelmed with colours and vibrancy and Joy! All the earth coming together to bring joyful praises to God.
This psalm also gives us the reason behind these joyful praises. ‘He made us, and we are his.’ What a joy it is to be a masterpiece of the almighty, creative artistic force of time and eternity. More than this, not only are we a masterpiece, but we are his masterpiece. He calls us his own. We have been welcomed into his courts, into his gates, into his kingdom. We, finite, frail humans, are invited to be part of his glorious eternal kingdom.
So today, I encourage you to take a moment to put on some worship music, sing your song of praise, pray in a quiet place or just dance as you imagine entering his glorious courts. Allow yourself to be filled with joy and excitement for this wonderful plan we get to be part of. Be filled with joy, for God is Good, and his love endures FOREVER.
Prayer - Holy Spirit, fill us again with excitement at the prospect of our eternal inheritance. May your kingdom's colours brighten this day.
