Made For A Great Life

PSALM 112:2b (NIV)
The generation of the upright will be blessed.

What does the title 'Made for a Great Life' mean?

Psalm 112 teaches us that a great life is a 'righteous life' and inspires us to be seeking 'righteousness' as we choose our path in this world.

Promises of a great life, not only for us but for generations to come, is much of what appeals to me in this Psalm.

I am sure that, like me, you have many reasons to believe you are 'blessed'. However, as we think about those who will come after us, it is a challenge and responsibility to know that what we are choosing now can affect the blessings of future generations.

I see the message of this Psalm as a great promise of hope. We are surrounded by bad news most places we look; the pressures of work and family, and the many worrying aspects of the current geopolitical aspects of our world. If you are drawn to watch programs like ‘Unreported World’ or ‘Panorama’ like me, it can make us feel there is very little future good to hope for.

For the Jews, this psalm, starting each line with the next letter of their alphabet, was a 'study guide' to teach them to live out the 'fear and delight of the Lord' by choosing to be gracious, compassionate, and righteous, giving generously of their finances and actively seeking justice for others. Each generation living this way passes on blessing to the next.

Despite the harsh circumstances the Jewish people were subjected to for much of their history, they were in awe of the presence of a loving God and kept believing in great blessing for future generations.

How much more in our generation do we need daily reminders to live the 'righteous life' so blessings can be passed to the next generation?

Prayer - Dear Jesus you called your people to choose to be upright, holy, in all aspects of life. Help me where I fail short in believing this for my own life. I want to live a life which brings glory to you, open to the call for righteousness whatever the cost. Refresh my vision to align with your vision for my life.
